The Chancellor’s Colloquium presents Gary Younge, "Race, Racism, Rebellion in the Midst of a Pandemic"

The Chancellor’s Colloquium Distinguished Speaker Series is an annual series that seeks to challenge the way we see the world. From musicians and academics, to actors, authors and more, this diverse group of intellectuals invited to this series addresses some of society’s most critical issues in thoughtful and unconventional ways. The 2020-21 Speaker Series will kick off with a presentation Tuesday, Aug. 25, “Going Viral: Race, Racism and Rebellion in the Midst of a Pandemic,” featuring Gary Younge, journalist, author, and professor of sociology.

Younge wrote last year’s Campus Community Book Project, Another Day in the Death of America: A Chronicle of Ten Short Lives. He gave his author’s talk at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts the night of March 2, about two weeks before the campus suspended operations due to the coronavirus pandemic. Read coverage of his address.

The online program will begin at 4 p.m. PDT, with Younge participating from London. For this event, he will give a talk and then take questions from the audience (submitted via the webinar platform).
